Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community is Hiring a RN/QA/Staff Development/Infection Preventionist Near Salem, NC

Position Description

Responsible for the coordination and development of staff education. Developing in-service and educational programming on an on-going basis. Serves as the nursing representative of Arbor Acres Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program. Provides nursing staff orientation for new employees ensuring they understand the role expectations of Arbor Acres. Responsible for ensuring that the antibiotic stewardship program is completed and as the Infection Preventionist for the facility.

Job Relationships

  • Reports to Director of Nursing.
  • General supervision of RNs, LPNs and CNAs

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in reviewing and evaluating job performance of nursing personnel, observes/enforces safe work procedures.
  • Participates in the interviewing, orientation and disciplinary guidance of nursing personnel while participating in the RN-on-call rotation.
  • Recommends and conducts, as appropriate, in-service training programs.
  • Serves as nursing representative on the Safety Committee.
  • Complies with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with other departments in coordinating resident services.
  • Makes rounds to ensure staff are following standard precautions and in compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Maintain Nursing Policy and Procedure book, ensuring it is current and up to date.
  • Responsible for the Nursing schedule to ensure the appropriate staff are here daily.
  • Serves as the Payroll representative for the Nursing department.
  • Maintain CPR Instructor licenses and teach BLS for the essential employees.
  • Provides clinical expertise and guidance to insure quality of nursing care to residents.
  • Plans and conducts approved nurses aide training.
  • Plans and conducts in-service education programs for Resident Assistants, licensed nurses and other departments as deemed necessary that include but are not restricted to the following: a. Fire Prevention & Safety, b. Accident Prevention, c. Prevention and Control of Infection, d. Resident's Rights, e. Confidentiality, f. Blood-borne Pathogens, g. Tuberculosis
  • Provides a program of orientation for new nursing employees.
  • Plans and conducts annual competencies for all Nurses and CNAs.
  • Maintain Nursing employees TB records and ensure that licenses and certificates are up to date.
  • Coordinates the provision of continuing education designed and developed for specific needs or interests of staff.
  • Documents provision of staff development services.
  • Provides clinical services as defined in the RN job description as needed.
  • Follow the household model and support all the staff working within the households.
  • Performs any duties and/or tasks that maybe assigned on an as-needed basis by the Nursing Director.
  • Works closely with and supervises the QAPI nurse to ensure Arbor Acres QAPI program continues to be effective.
  • Serves as an essential team player during State Survey and works with staff to ensure they are prepared for the process.
  • Participates in the weekly IDT meetings to discuss the skilled residents.
  • Serves as the Nursing expert for electronic medical records (AOD).
  • Attend the annual SPICE Infection for long-term care course and maintain the certificate.
  • Complete monthly QA reports for licensed areas (Skilled and Assisted Living). Holds monthly QA meetings, which involve employees within different departments.
  • Work closely with Facility Services to coordinated and hold required drills such as Fire, Elopement and Disaster.

Typical Physical Demands

  • Able to walk up to 20 minutes at a time in order to traverse across campus.
  • Considerable hearing ability in order to perceive the nature of sounds and medical equipment.
  • Frequent walking, bending, stretching, lifting, carrying.
  • Able to see and read newsprint sized letters in order to make visual assessments of residents.
  • Possible exposure to: airborne particles, blood-borne pathogens, odors, toxic chemicals, and fumes.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 30 lbs. is required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the WorkSTEPS Functional Testing program. This program assists in determining whether applicants/employees are able to safely perform essential job functions.

Minimum Education

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a Registered Nurse.

Minimum Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in patient care with at least one year of experience in a long-term care setting.

License and/or Certification Required

1. Licensed as a RN in the State of North Carolina.
