Salary Range: $15.70 - $16.80 Hourly

Description

Position Description

The Culinary Artist - Line Cook possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare meals for the dining rooms, resident neighborhoods, special events, catering services, and employee meals, paying close attention to achieving a high level of food quality in relation to thoughtful, properly seasoned, beautifully presented and well executed food items.

Job Relationships

  1. Reports to the Kitchen Manager working diligently to achieve the goals and directives set forth by the Kitchen Manager and Dining Arts Director-Healthcare.

Cook Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Learn, practice, and mentor fellow Artists in the 5 core competencies central to OTF training. Only the Finest
  2. Responsible for preparing various food items served to residents, guests and employees including entrees, starches, vegetables, soups, side dishes, desserts, breakfast items and other food items as needed.
  3. Must understand, demonstrate and monitor compliance regulations of federal, state, and local governing authorities, adhering to all procedures and guidelines.
  4. Properly label and date all food items without fail.
  5. Adhere to all Dining Arts department protocols and procedures.
  6. Maintain proper personal appearance and hygiene according to established guidelines.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information to ensure resident and employee rights are protected and HIPPA guideline are followed.
  8. Participate and attend all scheduled in-service training (IST) programs.
  9. Report all hazardous conditions, equipment repair needs, facility maintenance needs and all other facility/equipment related needs. Report all accidents and workplace incidents.
  10. Maintain a high level of food quality and service, keeping all workstations cleaned, stocked and presentable at all times.
  11. Attend Dining Arts department and other Arbor Acres meetings as deemed necessary by management.
  12. Assist with orientation of newly hired Dining Arts employees.
  13. Must continually strive to improve communication inside and outside of the Dining Arts department, demonstrating effective reading, writing, speaking and non-verbal communicative skills.
  14. Must be detail oriented and be able to perform duties with great accuracy.
  15. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as assigned.
  16. Must be able to interface with people at all levels and with residents in a positive and professional manner.
  17. Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  18. Must maintain the care of equipment, appearance and atmosphere of the kitchen, and minimize the waste of supplies.
  19. Must practice and excel at properly greeting all residents and guests.

  22. Full understanding and effective application of the following:
  • Sanitation, food-borne illness and cross-contamination prevention policies and procedures.
  • Proper usage of cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials (SDS).
  • Honoring resident and employee rights.
  • Department policies and procedures.
  • Assist with all catering and special events.
  • Check catering board daily

Cook Typical Physical Demands

  1. Must be able to successfully complete the WorkSTEPS Functional Testing program. This program assists in determining whether applicants/employees are able to safely perform essential job functions.
  2. Ability to squat, kneel, bend, stoop, reach (above the shoulders) and lift most of the day.
  3. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and move hands and arms in any direction.
  4. Must be able to tolerate a noisy, hot, humid environment, as well as cold temperatures from refrigerators and freezers.
  5. Must be able to lift 40 lbs and push food carts weighing more than 100 lbs.
  6. Exposure to detergents & chemicals used in cleaning.
  7. Work beyond duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  8. Senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell required.

Cook Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Strong verbal communication skills. The ability to read, write, understand, and speak fluently and correctly in the English language.
  2. Must be able to calmly handle frequent interruptions.
  3. Work habits must include regular attendance, punctually, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness.
  4. Working knowledge of standard commercial kitchen equipment and efficient usage.
  5. Ability to embody and uphold the corporate personality and culture of Arbor Acres with its emphasis on warmth, caring, generation of community, enthusiasm, achievement of excellence, and joy.
  6. Bilingual is a plus, but not required.

Minimum Education

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Experience

  1. Minimum of one (1) year prior experience in related position.
  2. ServSafe certified. (Must be able to obtain within six months of employment.)
