    POSITION OVERVIEW
    Under direction of the Building Principal, the Lunch/Office Support Aide performs assigned duties in the school cafeteria, playground or administrative office. Such duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining order and safety in the cafeteria and playground, provide phone and reception coverage in the Office, and other assigned responsibilities to support student, staff and administration at each school location.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
    • Assists in the supervision of students in the cafeteria & classrooms during meal serving times.
    • Maintains order while students purchase food, dispose of trash and return of trays and utensils to designated areas.
    • Sees that students are seated in assigned areas throughout their time in the cafeteria and during classroom meal service.
    • Circulates among assigned tables during the mealtime and amongst children who need help or to resolve any minor problems that arise.
    • Delivers meals to classrooms when requested.
    • Properly records all meals served in the classroom setting using appropriate tickets and/or rosters provided and returns the records to cafeteria manager.
    • Communicates with the classroom teachers about any relevant concerns.
    • Informs principal of any serious infractions of discipline rules by students.
    • Notifies principal immediately in event of a breach of security procedures.
    • Brings medical problems and injuries to the immediate attention of school nurse, principal or designee.
    • Is alert at all times to the children and their needs.
    • Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the cafeteria.
    • Assists in supervision of students in the play area, as well as in moving to and from the play area.
    • Assists in the supervision of students in designated classrooms in the event of inclement weather or other situations.
    • Is trained on phone system to answer and respond to phone calls from the public.
    • Works in office to support administrators in basic clerical and administrative support such as answering phones, make copies, filing, receiving the public etc.
    • Follows all policies, rules and procedures established by the school district.
    • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Below are the qualifications for this position:
    • Pleasant and professional demeanor working with children, staff and administrators.
    • Preferably a minimum of one year of experience working with children and/or assisting in the supervision of children.
    • Ability to answer phones and professionally respond to inquiries from the public on various topics.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively and timely in completing assigned tasks.
    • Possesses the physical ability to perform assigned duties including removal of items from cafeteria tables and assisting in loading paper to office printers/machines.
    • Successfully completes required criminal history background check and TB Test as required by State law.
    • Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

    • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
    • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
