We are seeking a highly motivated protein scientist with a strong background in therapeutic antibody discovery and engineering. This position involves designing and optimizing different formats of antibodies, generating protein reagents to support antibody characterization and biomarker discovery, and overseeing contract research organizations (CROs) to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality research materials for preclinical studies. In this role you will have the opportunity to work cross functionally with translational research, biomarker, preclinical pharmacology, and Tech-Ops teams to help define strategy and ensure alignment in execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Design different formats of antibodies tailored specifically for the I&I therapeutic area, with a focus on balancing affinity, functionality and developability
• Establish the criteria for protein reagent generation quality control to meet biophysical and biological assays requirements
• Oversee the production, purification, and inventory management of research-grade proteins and antibodies through collaboration with CROs
• Coordinate with the Tech-Ops team to facilitate scale-up production and transition of early developability to manufacturability assessment of lead antibody candidates
• Develop innovative technical capabilities and foster cross-functional collaboration to align with department and company goals
• Manage internal workstreams and external partnerships, including CROs, to ensure quality, prioritization, and timely execution across multiple programs
• Provide support for regulatory activities such as INDs, IBs, as well as contributing to scientific publications and presentations to showcase our research and antibody discovery efforts

Ideal Candidate

• A Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field
• A minimum of 5 years of biologics drug research and development experience
• Strong expertise in antibody discovery campaign and in vitro engineering, with a preference for structural based antibody design and optimization
• Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in protein expression, purification, and analytics, including protein binding assay (ELISA, Octet, MSD) and cell binding assay by flowcytometry
• Previous experience in directing, managing, and performing laboratory-based bench work
• Exceptional project management skills, including a strong sense of urgency and the ability to collaborate and influence effectively across different functions
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, including the ability to author, review, and edit scientific and regulatory documents, as well as deliver presentations to various stakeholders

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% including a minimum of 4 times per year for All Hands meetings
• Ability to work onsite in the Apogee lab located in Boston, MA a minimum of 3 days perweek

The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $165,000-$175,000/ year. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, and geography.
