Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) unit provides basic medical care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. The LPN assists with patient care, monitoring, and administering prescribed medications and treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Care:
• Provide basic bedside care, including bathing, dressing, and feeding patients.
• Assist with the preparation of patients for procedures and examinations.
• Monitor patients' conditions and report any changes to the RN or physician.
• Assist in wound care and dressing changes.
• Medication Administration:
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
• Ensure accurate documentation of medications and treatments.
• Monitoring:
• Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
• Perform routine checks on patients and monitor their progress.
• Documentation:
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including observations, interventions, and outcomes.
• Document patient care activities in compliance with healthcare facility policies.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Collaborate with RNs, physicians, and other healthcare team members to provide comprehensive patient care.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding care plans and health conditions.
• Patient Education:
• Educate patients and their families on health maintenance and disease prevention.
• Provide instructions on post-hospital care and medication management.
• Quality and Safety:
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and infection control measures.
• Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
• Professional Development:
• Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
• Maintain current LPN licensure and certifications.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• Completion of an accredited LPN program.
• Licensure/Certification:
• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of [State].
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Additional certifications may be required based on facility needs.
• Experience:
• Previous experience in a Medical-Surgical unit preferred.
• New graduates with strong clinical skills may be considered.
