The Machine Manager is responsible for the operations and employees of the Machining Group; manages the functions and staff of the Department. Provide leadership with Apex Management Team to support the company’s overall goals and objectives. Responsible for the achievement of departmental goals as measured by the key performance standards including but not limited to:
Safety – ensure the safe operation of equipment by all staff
Quality – meet or exceed standards
Delivery – meet delivery dates
Cost – meet or reduce budgeted production hours

Essential Responsibilities

Effective Planning (having the resources on hand – working on the right things at the right time)
  • Forecasting
  • Scheduling
  • Coordinating materials planning, making sure materials will be on hand when needed
  • Full-time attendance is required
  • Other duties as requested
  • Staffing (direct supervision of staff)
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers
  • Plan, prepare and revise work schedules and duty assignments for multiple shifts according to budgets, customer needs, work loads and forecasts
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of subordinates work
  • Interview, select and discharge employees
  • Consult with other personnel to resolve problems such as equipment performance, output quality, and work schedules
  • Review records and reports pertaining to such activities as production, operation, and payroll
  • Train employee in work and safety procedures and company policies
  • Employee performance management including teamwork development, evaluation, discipline, and recognition
  • Participate in work of subordinates to facilitate productivity or overcome difficult aspects of work
  • Train and monitor employees for safe work practices and compliance to company policies
  • Other duties as requested
Equipment and Logistics
  • Ensure the quality of fixtures, responsible for getting new fixtures made or purchased when needed
  • Ensure the quality of tooling, order tooling when needed
  • Must be able to develop quality and work towards zero defects
  • Be open to diversification of work
  • Must be able to maintain equipment in good working order either by doing the maintenance themselves or by getting it scheduled with the appropriate companies.
  • Inspect equipment for defects and notify outside service contractors for repairs
  • Perform R&D work as directed
  • Other duties as requested
Job Costing- projections, evaluation, and review
  • Ability to ensure accurate and effective estimates and job reporting
  • Accurate job costing (hours designated to coding)
  • Compare actual performance with estimated costs and scheduling, Identify and resolve discrepancies or errors
  • Examine procedures and recommend changes to save time, labor, and other costs and to improve quality and operating efficiency
  • Compile reports and information required by management
  • Other duties as requested
Qualifications, Requirements, and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in technical discipline.
  • 7-10 years applicable experience or demonstrated abilities.
  • Knowledge of standard industry practice on machine shop operation and maintenance.
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Ability to use and read measuring equipment eg; calipers, dial indicators, height gage, etc.
  • Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) structure and CAD drawings.
  • Skilled communicator, both orally and written, in use of word processing, spread sheets, presentations, data base management software and manufacturing systems programs such as MRP, MRPII and ERP.
  • Must be skilled in the use of Windows-based PC.

  • International Standards Organization (ISO) certified environment
  • Some noise and plastic chips in manufacturing area.
  • Safety glasses recommended on the manufacturing floor outside of designated safety corridor.
  • Hearing protection recommended in vicinity of machinery.
  • Compliance with company safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to stand at workstation for designated shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry 35 lbs.
