Job Objective:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director of Pharmacy, in close collaboration with the leadership and staff of the Pharmacy Department, with some latitude for independent judgment and action, manages all aspects of the procurement and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceutical and related supply inventories to optimize patient safety in the medication use process. Also supervises the medication recall process, charge master maintenance as required and integration of purchasing process with all appropriate pharmacy information and automation systems.
Models a desire to create systems of excellence in inventory management and related technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists manager to ensure that all information systems and technology are compliant with at all State, Federal and Joint Commission laws and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy and the provision of safe medication therapy.
- Assists in the appropriate orientation, training and competency assessment of pharmacy staff as it relates to purchasing and inventory systems.
- Evaluates and tests all appropriate system code change and upgrades as directed. i.e. formulary and charge master maintenance.
- Manages the Drug Recall process. Provides timely information to director and staff.
- Responsible for maintaining stock levels to meet patient needs while ensuring efficient inventory turns.
- Must have thorough understanding of all Controlled Substance laws and regulations and maintains reports and systems to ensure safety and optimal control over the controlled substance inventory.
- Maintains assigned inventory control systems, (automation technology, etc.), at optimal safety and efficiency.
- Responsible for the maintenance and support of appropriate financial, billing and revenue information in all relevant computer systems to ensure accurate patient billing.
- Responsible for running, analyzing and making recommendations when appropriate, all relevant system reports and those requested by management.
- Maintains professional work habits by organizing workload, setting priorities, completing assignments in a timely manner, utilizing resources appropriately, complying with department program standards and adapts well to change
- Ensures appropriate and timely dissemination of information throughout the department and institution
- Maintains local and National inventory compliance program requirements. (i.e. Vaccines, 340b program, Novation)
- Participates in appropriate committees as needed.
- Maintains clinical, technical and inventory management expertise through consistent literature review and attendance in appropriate seminars.
15.Assists in the creation and publication of training reference materials.

Education and Experience:
Education
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate of Arts or Bachelors Degree in related field is preferred.
Experience
At least 5 years acute care pharmacy practice as a pharmacy technician.
Must have experience at a senior pharmacy technician level.
Prefer three to five years focused experience related to pharmacy purchasing.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Works primarily in an office environment.
Requires ability to stand, sit or walk around department and facility most of the day.
Some bending, lifting less than 20 lbs and reaching above the shoulder.
Typing, answering phones and working around automated equipment.
Potential for exposure to dangerous or toxic medications.
