Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments is Hiring a Regional Planner Near Auburn, ME

Regional Planner

Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments (AVCOG) serves Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties, Maine and seeks to fill the above position. The Regional Planner will primarily work with AVCOG’s Land Use Planner to provide technical assistance in land use related matters to planning boards and code enforcement officers. The Planner prepares land use related ordinances including, zoning, shoreland zoning, site plan review and subdivision review and assists the region’s communities in their comprehensive planning programs, undertakes technical reviews of local development and subdivision applications and conducts regional planning studies as needed.

Our planners work on a range of planning tasks including land use, housing, environmental, transportation and economic development, and more. This regional position, working for a variety of municipal governments, provides our planners with an exceptional opportunity to work in all aspects of regional planning.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, or related field, a minimum of three years’ experience in municipal, urban or regional planning, or any equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with municipal officials, boards, committees and the public. A working knowledge of Maine’s land use laws including zoning, shoreland zoning, subdivision, and growth management/comprehensive planning is desirable but not required.

MS Office experience required and ESRI ArcGIS preferred. Excellent organizational, writing, communication, problem-solving, consensus-building, and teamwork is essential. This position requires travel to attend meetings, including some evening meetings and use of personal vehicle (mileage reimbursable).
