A General Sales Manager (GSM) is responsible for bringing a vision for their market, development of their sales team’s skills and customer growth in order to gain the greatest possible return on investments. The GSM will drive results by ensuring talent and resources are optimized while being focused on profit driven activities in support of company strategies and goals. This position is part of the On Premise Sales team. Here’s more of what you will do… (OK, not all in one day!) Drives team accountability, performance and development through metrics, performance evaluation and surveys. Leads team member development and training by coaching sales team leaders and team members, in market, to ensure proper application of the Andrews sales methodology. Sets clear performance standards and coaches team member development via work-withs to ensure the proper use of performance measurement tools. Observes, evaluates, and documents team member performance in market to reinforce monthly training initiatives. Provides timely performance feedback and coaching to all sales and merchandising team members. Develops and implements merchandising productivity processes that maximize customer service in a cost effective manner. Ensures compliance in all company programs and practices. Identifies ways to leverage and coach the proper use of applicable performance tools and data to achieve sales goals and customer service levels. Leads change initiatives through coaching, feedback, follow-up and recognition. Manages leaders’ market time ensuring the primary focus of their time is used to coach and counsel team members. Acts as a liaison between sales support teams and their sales team to ensure only pertinent sales information is sent to each sales team member to avoid unnecessary distractions. Works with Marketing to design targeted programming/marketing and sales/business planning. Provides leadership to sales team during quarterly sales and performance planning. Leads exceptional retail execution through building customer relationships and strong team performance. Collaborates with other Sales, Shared Services and Operations teams as needed to provide leadership for business initiatives. Collaborates and ensures reset strategies, objectives and schedules are met. Encourages team engagement and builds overall team relationships by providing open communication for the sales team to voice concerns and opportunities. Researches and develops solutions as needed. Leads bi-monthly sales meetings, develops sales presentations and facilitates meetings to ensure relevant information is presented to all sales team members. Analyzes sales metrics to identify areas of improvement and communicates metrics to sales team to drive and improve performance in market. Models the use of metrics during presentations and coaching to build team member metrics knowledge and skills. This list is not all inclusive of other tasks and subtasks that may be necessary in performing this role, but rather an overview of the role’s primary work tasks. Here’s what you must have to be considered for this role… Eight to Ten Years Progressive Sales Leadership Experience Five Plus Years Supervisory Experience; Hiring, Training, Coaching and Performance Management Previous Distribution Business Experience; Strong Understanding of the Beer/Spirits and Beverage Industry Advanced Communication and Relationship Building Skills Strong Presentation Skills Advanced Technology and Data Analysis Skills Here’s what we hope you have… Diverse Sales Experience in a Variety of Sales Assignments/Sales Functions/Sales Markets Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Business or Other Related Field Previous Merchandising and Category Management Experience Level 1 – Certified Beer Server Certification PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ability to maintain a sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time and operate computer equipment. Ability to bend, stoop, and twist is required for filing and general office duties. Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as standing, walking, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which maybe heavy or awkward. Exerts up to 55 lbs of force occasionally and/or negligible amount frequently to move office-related items or materials. Ability to use a personal computer for tasks such as communicating via email, preparing reports and other forms of documentation using company and industry software. Ability to speak, hear, and see is required to communicate with employees, and to operate computers and office machinery. Hand-eye coordination and fine manipulation skills are necessary to operate computers and various office equipment. Continual hand/wrist motion is required to operate computers and office machinery. Driving may be required during the workday. Must tolerate working in an environment with inside/outside ambient/extreme temperatures. Ability to perform job functions in compliance with company policies and procedures, including safety policies and best practices. Must be able to maintain a current/valid driver's license.
