Job Summary:
Primary function is to provide personal care and simple procedures as an extension of therapy or nursing to the patient in their place of residence; to assist in providing a safe and clean environment, work cooperatively with patient and family and report observations, changes and problems to the supervisor.
Job Classification: Clinical
Lines of Authority: Reports to Director of Nurses; Clinical Manager. Works under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
Job Qualifications: Training & Experience: The Home Health Aide meets one of the following requirements: Successfully complete a training and competency evaluation program as specified in §484.80(b) and (c) respectively; or Successfully complete a competency evaluation program that meets the requirements of §484.80(c); or Successfully complete a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program approved by the state as meeting the requirements of §483.151 through §483.154; and is currently listed in good standing on the Texas Department of Human Services Nurse Aide Registry; or The requirements of a state licensure program that meets the provisions of§ 484.80(b) and (c). A home health aide or nurse aide is not considered to have completed a program, as specified in 484.80(a)(1), if, since the individual's most recent completion of the program(s), there has been a continuous period of 24 consecutive months during which none of the services furnished by the individual were for compensation. If there has been a 24-month lapse in furnishing services for compensation, the individual must complete another program before providing services.
Skills: Must be able to read and write in English and follow written and verbal instructions in English effectively. Demonstrates interest in the welfare of ill and elderly. Negative TB screen. Transportation: Reliable transportation. Current auto liability insurance and valid Driver’s License
Environmental and Working Conditions: Works in patient’s homes in various conditions, possible exposure to blood and body fluids and infectious diseases; ability to work flexibly schedule, ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather.
Physical and Mental Effort: Prolonged standing and walking required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and transfer patients. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines, to identify patient needs, to make quick decisions and meet patient/family psycho social needs. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to utilize durable medical equipment in the home.
