The Amherst, Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional School Districts are seeking qualified applicants for a full time, school year Nurse Manager position. This individual will work closely with district administrators and the School Nurses. In addition, the Nurse Manager will communicate and collaborate with the School Physician and community partners.
The Nurse Manager oversees that district’s need for student health education and services for grades preK through 12 and will work with school leaders to establish and provide educational services to address the needs of the student population.
Due to the range of roles and responsibilities and the assignment covering all districts, the candidate assigned work hours may vary to accommodate the assigned duties.
The Nurse Manager will have the following roles and responsibilities:
Participate in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of School Nurses and other related health services personnel (CNAs, LPNs, etc.);
Observe School Nurses and provides input as part of the evaluation process;
Coordinate health services programs for students in compliance with statutes and regulations;
Develop and/or review written policies and protocols for the clinical services and programs addressing health issues;
Supervise health offices software utilization and updates providing training as needed;
Develop and implements data systems to review trends in health status indicators;
Provide consultation to the health education personnel, physical education teachers and other administrative and teaching staff;
Carry out communicable disease and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions;
Mentor new school nurses;
Responsible for daily nurse staffing for district;
Coordinate before and after school nursing care;
Assist with case management of students with chronic health conditions;
Monitor chronic absenteeism of students;
Collaborate with all health related partners and stakeholders;
Coordinate and/or provide the review, planning, and delivery of health education in district including but not limited to providing health education and intervention services for vaping;
Participate in training and providing self-harm and suicide screenings;
Responsible for the AED equipment and review in District;
Maintain epipen and narcan medications in schools;
Complete community health assessment;
Collaborate with District Homeless Student coordinator to ensure health services for homeless students and families;
Complete ongoing continuous quality improvements programs and adjusts school nursing practice based on findings;
Maintain districtwide information regarding CPR trained staff and plans for classes for staff to become or maintain certification;
Oversight of the district’s Wellness Committee;
Responsible for carrying out all Comprehensive School Health Services (CSHS) grant requirements including attending MDPH meetings.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide resources to families including connection with health insurance;
Collaborate with personnel in the BRYT programs;
Collaborate with personnel on School Climate and Culture;
Collaborate with school staff on bullying prevention and intervention programs;
Work with 504 Coordinators regarding plans for students with health related conditions;
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Eligibility for DESE School Nurse Licensure, which would include the following:
Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts;
Bachelor’s degree in community health, health education, nursing, or public health;
Minimum of two full years of employment as a Registered Nurse in a child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing setting;
Ability to complete an orientation program based on the requirements of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health;
Ability to pass a communication and literacy skills test;
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in community health nurse, health education, nursing, or public health;
Three years of employment as a School Nurse;
DESE School Nurse Licensure;
CPR certification or instructor certification.
Additional Details:
The position receives the benefits per the APAA contract, and the individual will report directly to the Director of Student Services;
