The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Technical Writer (DAiTA)-Journeyman to support Advanced Aircraft Research, Development, Test & Evaluation. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

A typical day as a Technical Writer (DAiTA)-Journeyman may include:

  • Possesses mid-level communication specialist experience with a focus on technical writing/editing
  • Creates compelling content for a variety of medium
  • Supports the NAWCAD DAiTA and Mission Systems Groups’ Communication Team
  • Plays an important role in creating content that promotes NAWCAD facilities and capabilities
  • Works with a variety of stakeholders to distill technical information into understandable content for a broad audience
  • Communicates complex topics in a clear, impactful manner
  • Writes and edits articles, news releases, web content, social media, award nominations and other collateral materials
  • Possesses a collaborative and self-starter attitude and can take a project from discovery to completion with precision/attention to detail

Must-haves:

  •  HS Diploma or equivalent/BS Degree
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • The ability to distill complex information into compelling content
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with teams
  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to reach out across departments to find and create stories
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

  • BA Degree in communications, public relations or related field
  • Understanding of NAVAIR/NAWCAD
  • Experience with Video
  • Experience with Adobe Suite
  • The ability to translate complex information into easily understandable content for a broad audience
  • Willingness to stay updated on a variety of style including AP and Navy style
  • The ability to write and edit with precision
  • The ability to work with stakeholders across the organization to create and publish stories
  • Experience with research and fact checking

Skills Crucial to Success at AMEWAS:

Candidates must have a customer-focused attitude with a high level of professionalism and discretion, and have the ability to work effectively with both management, and as part of a team, to meet project targets.

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site. In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site. Overnight travel will be required.

The physical environment requires the employee to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs.
