Job Description

Are you a Technical Editor looking to work with leading edge technologies! Then we have an opportunity to bring your technical understanding and experience to the development and delivery of various technical manuals in support of the US Navy and Royal Australian Air Force combat system upgrades to the P8A Maritime Patrol aircrew training simulation devices. This position has a hybrid work schedule (i.e. combination of virtual and onsite) at the discretion of the Program Manager in consultation with the Lead Logistics Engineer.

A week in the life of a Technical Editor:

  • Support the integration of the content and generation of formatted technical publication contract deliverables (CDRLs) to include: System Interface Manual; Training System Support Document; Preventative Maintenance System Cards (PMCs); Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) manuals
  • Review and understanding of the technical publication Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) and DD1423 requirements
  • Plan, outline, develop and gather inputs from the American Systems team members providing the technical content;
  • Generate technical documents based on provided inputs;
  • Coordinate the internal review of the composed material;
  • Support the preparation and facilitation of the Government directed Technical Manual Initial Guidance Conference (TMIGC) in accordance with the Technical Manual Contract Requirements (TMCR); and
  • Support the preparation and facilitation of the In Process Reviews in accordance with the TMCR.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum of five (5) years of technical writing experience;
  • Possess a SECRET or higher clearance or the ability to obtain one;
  • Understand a simulation system and translate design document information to technical manuals
  • Familiar with the generation and publication of 500 to 1000 page documents;
  • Versed in illustration version control;
  • Familiarity with DOD Technical documentation DIDs and their application to technical publication development;
  • Experience in establishing templates based on the guidance contained in the DD1423s and TMCR;
  • Familiar with CUI, ITAR, FAR Clauses, disclosures for distribution, destruction, foreign use and controlled information;

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary/hourly range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
