American Structures & Design is Hiring a Purchasing Specialist Near Sumner, WA

Overview
The purchasing specialist is generally responsible for buying, negotiating contracts, and
shopping for the best available prices. This position works closely with manufacturing to
maintain adequate inventory for critical materials. Fundamental knowledge of MRP/ERP system
is necessary and will use demand planning software to order long-lead time and short-lead time
items.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Purchase materials according to

o Demand plans

o Supply plans

o Mass work order generation

o Completion of purchase orders

  • Arrange inbound and outbound shipping logistics with suppliers and customers
  • Run daily reports necessary for production as directed
  • Support data capture of work center activities

o Material issuances

o Labor

o Machine time

  • Become aware of other available suppliers in the industry who may be willing to provide

materials at a better cost

  • Communicate regularly between manufacturing, administration, sales and executive

departments

  • Prepare documentation for managing inventory
  • Help develop procedures to manage inventory and purchasing across multiple warehouse and

production facilities

  • NetSuite (MRP) data entry, inventory adjustments and sales orders management
  • Address and resolve nonconforming material (quantity or quality) internally and with suppliers
  • Identify any potential delivery problems to take proactive steps to eliminate their impact on the

supply chain

  • Maintain and monitor inventory information system parameters and data integrity.
  • Oversee vendor sourcing and qualification process. Monitor and document the

performance of outside vendors

  • Help create an environment where innovation is celebrated and valued
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in purchasing, business, or equivalent experience required
  • Two to five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, procurement or logistics role
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • APICS certification (Certified Production Inventory Management) or equivalent experience
  • Understanding and experience with all facets of supply chain in a multitude of dynamic

industries

  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Outstanding organization and time management skills
  • Analytical mind with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge and operation of ERP systems
  • Will require periodic travel to branch offices
  • Be highly self-motivated and dependable
  • Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and

SharePoint

  • Type 40 WPM

Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • This position has responsibilities in both an office environment and ambient warehouse shop

area. Noise level is moderate.

  • Use of proper PPE including footwear, eye protection and any others that the assigned project

requires is mandatory.

  • Field audit and training will include working outside and could provide exposure to a variety of

elements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long
periods of time, regularly walk and climb stairs. The employee must constantly reach with
hands and fingers and use hands to type. Employee must be able to work in close contact with

Travel to customer sites. Rare overnight travel is possible.
The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 35 lbs.
