POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Production Manager supervises the activities of all technical departments—from lighting to carpentry—and oversees the use and maintenance of theater equipment.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Maintain and coordinate Production Calendars

    • Scenic Deadlines

    • Props Deadlines

    • Scheduling Production Meetings

    • Work with the Director to produce a Tech/Dress Schedule 

    • Produce a timeline of construction for the scenic build

    • Work with Scenic Artists to produce paint schedules

  • Production Budgets

    • Track scenic spending

    • Track spending for each show

  • Interpreting designer’s drawings 

    • Assess scenic design for budget, schedule, and achievability 

    • Communicate with the Designer and Director about design feasibility

    • Provide technical and functional direction to ensure creative vision is executed appropriately

  • Research and order all build materials related to scenic construction in conjunction with the Scenic Designer

  • Produce technical drawings for the shop 

  • Collaborating and overseeing the supervision of scenic build, ensuring production budget, and timeline are met

  • Ensure all scenery is built to high standards of quality and safety

  • Training and management of student crews in backstage operations. 

    • Deck

    • Rail

  • Assign students to strike crews

  • Manage onstage scenic strike with a focus on safety

  • Ensuring Scene Shop safety and maintenance 

    • Monitors and evaluates the installments to ensure the effectiveness and safety of the elements, theatrical participants, and attendees of the productions

  • Performance space safety and maintenance

  • Oversee Master Carpenter and other overhire scenic staff

  • Supervise scholarship students in after-school work calls

    • Build hands-on technical theatre skill

    • Build a strong work ethic

    • Build leadership skills

  • Build scenery as needed

  • Overseeing and assisting the Scenic Designer

    • Design Lower School Enrichment Show

    • Design as needed through the school year

  • Technical Theatre Instructor

    • Development of Jr. High Technical Theatre Intro class 

    • Development of High School Stagecraft class

    • Hands-on instruction with both Jr. High and High School students

    • Training in basic scenic construction

    • Teaching shop and theatre safety

    • Fostering a strong work ethic

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • May plan, coordinate, and participate in school-related events in the Theatre

  • Participation in Fine Art events as deemed necessary by the Co-Directors of Fine Arts

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 4 years of experience in the field, or related experience

  • Teaching certificate preferred but not required

  • Thorough understanding of the operation and control of sound, lighting, and other production equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged standing/ sitting

  • Stooping and/or kneeling

  • Lifting of boxes and/or equipment 60 - 100 lbs

  • Climbing of ladders
