GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Actuarial Assistant is responsible for analyzing, summarizing, and reporting various types of complex financial information in support of the company’s Inforce Management function, including providing support for annuity renewal rates, developing and running reports, improving existing processes, and assisting in inforce management and profitability initiatives. Exercises considerable discretion and judgment working under minimal guidance.

***this is an onsite/hybrid position located in West Des Moines, Iowa***

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts complex research, data analysis and prepares / distributes management reports.
  • Applies principles of finance and mathematics in providing analytical support to the Inforce Management Team.
  • Completes monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Works closely with other departments to move approved rates into production.
  • Report and query building for large sets of data.
  • Interprets data and summarizes findings.
  • Builds cross-functional relationships with other business units throughout the organization.
  • Assists with various product modeling and rate projects.
  • Requests, tests, and approves applicable system changes assisting with IT projects.
  • Contributes to process improvement efforts, identifying inefficiencies and developing and prioritizing corrective actions.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, finance, mathematics, statistics or other related field of study; or related field of study; plus six (6) years of progressively responsible actuarial/financial analysis or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.
  • Fixed Indexed Annuity product experience preferred
  • Experience with MS Excel / Word / PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools (SQL, Python, R, Tableau, etc.) a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions on practical problems that deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability and willingness to adjust to changing priorities in a fast paced working environment.
  • Minimal to no travel is required in this position.
