The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking an Intern, Regulatory Policy located in our Washington, D.C. office responsible for work on various Federal regulatory, private payer and state health policy issues. Additionally, the role is responsible for outline and evaluate the impact of proposed and existing policy changes as well as Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regulations affecting the practice of dermatology, including but not limited to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Inspector General (OIG) as well as the GAO and IOM. Research and summarize state laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with identifying, summarizing, and interpreting policies and federal regulations related to dermatology.
• Assist with tracking and cataloguing Medicare Local Coverage Decisions and insurers medical coverage and reimbursements policies.
• Conduct research to support engagement with health insurance companies, self-insured employer plans, and Medicare contractors.
• Analyze and report on state regulations and legislation.
• Conduct 50-state law and regulation surveys and identify trends.
• Provide staff support activities to council, committees and task forces as needed. 
• Other projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Undergraduate or master’s level studies in public health or public policy with a focus on health policy.
• Ability to conduct research on payment policies and health related federal and state laws and regulations, and to analyze and communicate findings effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, manage details, and monitor own work and projects.
• Ability to work effectively with varied people to facilitate the completion of the work by established deadlines vital.
• Attention to detail and resourcefulness.
• Analytical skills required.
