Position Summary

The LPN will function under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) at Avail Health at all times. The RN will be onsite at the facility at all times while the LPN is providing patient care. The licensed supervisor, the RN, is responsible for overseeing the LPN’s nursing practice and actively engages in a supervisory process that directs, guides, and influences the LPN’s performance of an activity. An LPN is a licensed nurse. A nurse never functions “under the license” of another nurse. The LPN is responsible for notifying the RN supervisor if an assignment or task is beyond his/her scope of practice.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including vital signs, intake/output, and activities of daily living.
• Maintain awareness of current operational policies and procedures which impact position responsibilities and direct patient care
• Assists the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse with patient care needs in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
• Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of Assist in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment
• Ensure personal appearance is clean and neat; wearing Avail Health identification at all times
• Attend all facility required meetings and in-service Compliance with attendance standards.
• Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts
• Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and ER policies and procedures pertaining

to safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety and hazardous materials

Qualifications

Language/math/reasoning ability

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Computer skills

• Current BCLS Certification
• Current, unencumbered Louisiana licensed practical nurse license

Physical Requirements

• Requires visual acuity to inspect and analyze work close to the eyes and ability to hear sound with or without correction; Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, pull, push lift, and able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature
