Job Summary
The nurse assistant provides care to, adult, and geriatric patients under the supervision of the registered nurse. This care focuses on personal hygiene, nutritional needs and activities of daily living.

C. Key Working Relationships: Associates of clinical and medical staff, and multidisciplinary team.

Essential functions:
A. Assists with patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs under the supervision of a RN/LPN. (Continuous Learner)
B. Supports a plan of care throughout patient’s stay. Provides input/data on changes in the patient’s condition to the professional nurse. (Continuous Learner)
C. Supports the discharge plan based on health center/department policy, and patient/family needs. (Continuous Learner)
D. Records patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate/timely manner. (Communication/Adherence to Policy))
E. Communicates patient information to the Registered Nurse/LPN and multidisciplinary team. (Communication)
F. Communicates with and performs duties following Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Guiding Behaviors. (Communication)
G. Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient care outcomes. (Teamwork)
H. Recognizes personal learning and development needs. Participates in developing their yearly performance goals. Creates a plan for professional/personal growth. (Continuous Learner).

U. Provides care to patients of other medical/surgical/psych/rehab care units as requested (adaptability)
Position Qualifications
A. Education
1. Registered on State of Iowa Nurse Aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible or currently enrolled in an A.D.N., BSN, program with successful completion of first semester of A.D.N. program, OR first year completion of nursing courses in BSN OR graduate of an A.D.N., BSN or LPN program
B. Experience
1. Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
