Alvernia University is Hiring a Graduate Assistant - Programming Focus Near Reading, PA

Job Summary:

The Student Activities Graduate Assistant will assist in the administrative tasks of the Office of Student Activities. The Graduate Assistant will also have the opportunity to develop their skills by assisting staff with advising student groups, managing events and overseeing specific projects. It is expected that the Graduate Assistant will work collaboratively with the Student Activities team to promote the university’s mission through activities, events and leadership opportunities.

Essential Functions:

  1. Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University as demonstrated by the University Ideal Characteristics.   2. Work 20 hours per week for Student Activities, including evening and weekend hours
  3. Assist Student Activities team with preparation, as well as implementation, of events and programs
  4. Co-advise Campus Activities Board (CAB) with the Assistant Director of Student Activities including attendance of general and executive board meetings and conferences as needed
  5. Assist in administration of weekend day trips including booking trips, purchasing tickets, arranging transportation, as well as tracking participants, payments and refunds
  6. Serve as an administrator for the PAX student engagement portal, including monitoring and approving event requests
  7. Regularly update CampusESP (parent portal) with Office of Student Activities events
  8. Submit weekly submission of events to campus newsletter
  9. Assist with events and services specific to commuter students
  10. Organize and plan monthly leadership development opportunities for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and students looking to take on future leadership roles
  11. Participate in various institutional events such as Orientation, Connection Days, Homecoming and Family Weekend, Senior Week and Commencement

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with Student Activities email account and correspondence
  2. Occasionally attend Open Houses as a representative from Student Activities

Qualifications/Education:

  1. Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
  2. Bachelor’s degree
  3. Proven PC skills, including Microsoft Office and Canva. Adobe Creative Suite experience a plus.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills
  5. Think creatively and innovatively
  6. Prioritize work, manage time, and multitask appropriately
  7. Function autonomously and as a member of a team

Physical Requirements:

  1. Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
  2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  3. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
