Alum Rock Counseling Center is Hiring a Clinical Intern Near San Jose, CA

The mission of Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) is to heal families and inspire youth to reach their full potential. For 50 years, ARCC has provided a wide range of behavioral health counseling and school-based support, designed to promote health equity & educational equity, and ensure that high-risk youth stay safe, in school, and drug & violence free. The agency supports a predominantly Latinx (70%) population in underserved schools and neighborhoods throughout Santa Clara County with a focus on the high-need area of East and Central San Jose. ARCC staff provide services to youth and caregivers who otherwise might struggle to afford and/or access quality care. In 2022-23, the agency served 11,000 individuals, through 13 different programs, including individual and family counseling, substance use prevention education, youth mentoring, family reunification, parent training/support, and services in 40 high-need schools.

We have 85 full-time employees and dedicated volunteers that make our program run. POSITION SUMMARY:

The position requires the intern to provide Medi-Cal appropriate and approved counseling services to youth, ages 6-21. The Intern, under the supervision of a licensed supervisor will provide clinical intervention and case management in a culturally sensitive and trauma informed manner. Must serve demographically underrepresented group in underserved regions or settings.

DUTIES:

  • Provide individual, collateral, and family therapy to youth and families who are referred to ARCC
  • Complete intakes, assessments, and treatment plans
  • Provide appropriate community based linkage and referral services to client families and provide follow up care when necessary
  • Assist in providing crisis intervention services as appropriate
  • Maintain client files in accordance to Medi-Cal standards and complete required paperwork including intake, psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, session notes, youth performance outcome forms, and other client related documentation within expected time frames
  • Maintain an active caseload of at least 8 clients for the duration of the placement.
  • The productivity expectation for the paid internship will be 38% of the trainees’ hours worked. This is equivalent to 7.6 hours of billable time per week. More clients may be required in order to meet productivity.
  • Provide Outreach services through community fairs and presentations to law enforcement, school personnel, and community groups as appropriate
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, supervision, and training necessary for professional development and as required for the agency or its funding sources
  • Understand and adhere to the laws governing child abuse and other mandated reporting
  • Maintain confidential client records and files that are in adherence with ARCC’s company policy as well as being in compliance with the privacy, confidentiality, and HIPAA laws as dictated by the state of California
  • Administer evaluation surveys as required by contract

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled in a MA Program in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling from an accredited college/university
  • Experience working with diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English or Vietnamese/English) preferred
  • Experience with juvenile delinquency intervention strategies
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and as a positive contributing member of a team
  • Computer literacy preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Medi-cal documentation trained (preferred)
  • Fingerprinting and background check as required by the Department of Justice
  • Valid CA driver’s license, an automobile for agency travel, and proof of current auto insurance
  • TB clearance required every 2 years ·
  • COVID19 vaccination and Booster, highly recommended.
