What You Will Contribute To Altos

The Altos Labs Scientific Computing and Data group is building a team of software engineers to implement our engineering practice and help optimize and accelerate the Altos science mission. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will shape both the technology and culture of the software team and broader organization. As part of developing our technology agenda, you will make recommendations on high and low-level technical direction, design and help implement our software development platform and tools and evangelize best practices across technology and scientific functions.

Responsibilities

• You will set the direction and culture of the software engineering organization, including guiding decisions around software platforms, coding standards, deployment policies, and other best practices
• You will architect and implement cloud, on-premises, and hybrid systems and solutions that scale and adapt to changing demands
• You will own relationships across engineering, scientific, and vendor teams, streamlining and unblocking critical technical decisions
• You will mentor software engineers and computational scientists, evangelizing best practices around development tools, CI/CD, and other methods to improve code quality and efficiency
• You will be a strategic partner to Altos leadership, helping direct the long-term vision of the organization

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

• BS (or higher) in Computer Science, or related quantitative field, or equivalent technical experience
• 8 years software development experience
• Demonstrated track record of hand-on technical leadership, including owning and delegating technical design decisions
• Experience architecting and implementing cloud, on-premises, and hybrid technical solutions
• Experience working cross-functionally with stakeholders and partners to manage risks and create short and long-term plans
• Excited to design, implement, and evangelize technical and cultural standards across scientific and technical functions

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or related quantitative field
• Experience with scientific research and/or early stage software development organizations
• Experience or familiarity with biology, bioinformatics, or common biological data analysis methods and experience working with biologists or bioinformaticians

The salary range for Redwood City, CA:

• Senior Staff Software Engineer: $237,150 - $320,850
