Alpine Advanced Materials is Hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern Near Dallas, TX

Alpine Advanced Materials provides high-performance engineered-composite parts by leveraging advanced manufacturing processes to make technically complex products that weigh less, go faster, last longer and, over time, are more economical to produce. Working across a range of industries — including aerospace, defense, space, and emerging transportation — Alpine offers customers a high-touch experience from the earliest stage of a project through its production lifecycle. The company’s lightweight materials and deep expertise in designing for manufacturing helps consolidate and optimize part design, streamlining the overall process while its domestic supply chain ensures customers a scalable manufacturing solution that delivers perfect parts every time — all through one partner. Alpine’s flagship material, HX5, is a best-in-class thermoplastic nanocomposite that replaces machined aluminum at 50% the weight and 93% the strength.

Position Description:

This internship supports design, analysis, and prototyping of injection molded and thermoformed products based on a family of custom advanced thermoplastic composite materials. This role is responsible for design, moldflow, and analysis of products, ensuring quality requirements and on time deliverables to end customers are met.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated understanding in existing and new design of molded polymer products including GD&T, moldflow, and analysis, managing multiple design efforts, and configuration management. This role will need to be self-driven for project execution and be able to follow goal level instruction from supervision to successfully identify and accomplish task items that meet the goal criteria. Experience in injection molded products, additive manufacturing, and CAD tools are a plus. Must be local to Dallas and able to work 20-40 hours/week on site.

Responsibilities

  • Accept direction from Project Engineer/Manager on multiple projects.
  • Capable of managing multiple concurrent efforts and prioritizing and self-management of time.
  • Development of tools, fixtures, and jigs in support of manufacturing or R&D.
  • Drafting of parts, assemblies, and supporting documentation to deliver quality products.
  • Collaboration with manufacturing engineering to deliver parts.
  • Collaboration with quality and operations to support post-design efforts.
  • Collaboration with marketing/sales to support new project efforts.

Experience/Skills/Training

  • Major in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Junior or Senior in college.
