The Bilingual Spanish Security Specialist will support Denver Zoo's mission byensuring a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, animals, property and assets while still providing exceptional customer service. Candidates must be fluent in conversational Spanish.Candidates should have (preferred) experience insecurity, loss prevention, law enforcement, military or public safety, be customer service oriented and have a clean driving record. Candidates must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. This shift for this position is a varying 8-hour work day between 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM and requires seasonal overtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Priority 1 - Physical Security
  • Detect and report suspicious, unsafe, or criminal acts which may be a threat to guests, staff, animals, property, or assets on Denver Zoo property.
  • Respond to emergency calls from the Security Department or other Zoo staff.
  • Survey the Denver Zoo grounds, including doors and gates, to identify any safety hazards or security issues.
  • Maintain Denver Zoo campus access control to authorized persons only.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras.
  • Properly care for, maintain, and account for Denver Zoo property used by Security.
  • Produce accurate and concise written incident reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of current emergency policies and procedures and respond to emergencies.
  • Assist in snow and ice removal.
  • Provide roving coverage for Security staff on campus.
Priority 2 - Guest Safety
  • Administer first aid to sick or injured employees, volunteers, and guests, and coordinate with emergency medical providers.
  • Contribute to the highest level of guest experience by assisting visitors, guests and staff and engage with the public by greeting and answering questions and resolving security issues in a professional and welcoming manner.
  • Act as a role model in the development of a culture of safety at the Denver Zoo.
Other Responsibilities and Duties
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability/demonstrated experience with evaluating situations, making decisions, and reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact effectively and calmly with angry or emotional patrons and employees during intensely aggravated circumstances.
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to maintain guest, employee, and organization confidentiality.
  • Must be able towalk (80 acres) and/or stand up to 8 hours daily in adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, snow or heat.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
  • Fluency in conversational Spanish (is required).
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • One-year civilian (non-military) or military experience in security, safety, loss prevention or law enforcement (related academic training or customer service experience may be considered as a substitute for direct security requirement).
  • Experience working in a high-volume customer focused venue or attraction is preferred.
Position Conditions
  • A current driver's license with a clear driving record.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Ability to obtain a Denver Security License.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Compensation
Range for this position is $18.29 - $21.02 hourly.
A pay differential will be paid for positions requiring Spanish speaking fluency.
