Alliance for Youth Organizing is Hiring a Grants Manager Near Washington, DC

The Alliance for Youth Action (along with our sister 501c3 organization, the Alliance for Youth Organizing) is is on the lookout for an experienced Grants Manager to join our dynamic Development Team. In this vital role, you'll be at the forefront of managing our grants program, meticulously preparing and submitting grant reports and proposals, ensuring they align with funder requirements and deadlines. You'll collaborate across teams to ensure compelling and accurate narratives, and take the lead in researching and identifying new funding prospects in line with our network's priorities. Alongside this, your role will encompass key administrative responsibilities, including managing the grants calendar, enhancing our tracking systems, and supporting our leadership in fundraising initiatives. This role reports to the Development Director (once hired; currently reports to the Executive Director), and is a full-time position based in the United States (see Logistics, below). Alliance for Youth Organizing is a unionized workplace, and staff are represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local 32035; this position is a part of the bargaining unit.

About the Alliance for Youth Action

The Alliance convenes, supports, and scales a national network of youth-led, locally rooted organizations growing civic engagement and social justice coast to coast. We truly are a multiracial network “of young people, by young people, for all people.” Our Affiliates and Partners run massive voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, train new young leaders, and run powerful campaigns to win on the progressive issues our generation cares about most. Our national team empowers this work by tracking down national resources for the network, building capacity for local groups, seeding new efforts, and coordinating national issue campaigns.

Grants Program Management (65%)
  • Prepare and submit grant reports and proposals, ensuring adherence to funder requirements and deadlines.

  • Collaborate with various teams to develop accurate and compelling narratives and metrics for funder-facing documents.

  • Work with the Development Team to create precise and engaging donor materials, tailoring updates to align with donor interests.

  • Proactively research and identify new funding prospects and opportunities, focusing on strategies that align with the priorities of the Alliance network.

  • Serve as a lead writer for all grant proposals and reports, showcasing the impact and needs of the organization.

Administrative Support (35%)

  • Manage the workflow and calendar for foundation grants.

  • Maintain and enhance grants management and tracking systems, ensuring the organization of documents and accuracy in revenue tracking.

  • Collaborate with the Finance team to manage restricted grant spending effectively.

  • Keep an organized repository of grant language and pertinent information.

  • Assist the Executive Director and leadership in preparing for key fundraising activities and events.

  • Support the Development Team in organizing donor events and programs that connect national resources to local groups.

  • Contribute to the creation of the Annual Reports, showcasing the impact of donor contributions.

Key Qualifications & Experience

Fundraising Experience

  • At least 3-4 years of experience in a nonprofit development role or similar.

  • Proficiency with donor management systems, preferably EveryAction.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

  • A personal understanding and demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity, and a desire to uplift the leadership of BIPOC young people.

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture

  • Proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets

  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Project Management Software, and Slack

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and patience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Comfort with technology and virtual communication systems, including Zoom, Google Hangouts, etc.

  • Ability to effectively and independently manage projects, plan backward, anticipate obstacles, troubleshoot, and make smart judgment calls as needed.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience and familiarity with Google Suite

  • Basic familiarity with c3/c4 nonprofit structures preferred

  • Familiarity and comfort with donor databases, EveryAction preferred

Logistics

  • Compensation: $64,000 - $75,000 per year commensurate with experience.

  • Benefits: The Alliance offers a competitive benefits package covering:

  • Location: This is a full-time position based in the United States. All Alliance staff are required to live within about an hour from major airports in most US states; more detail will be provided to finalists as relevant. Moving reimbursements are offered to employees who need to move for this position.

  • COVID-19: The Alliance currently requires employees to be fully vaccinated and boosted in order to travel on behalf of the Alliance. Additionally there may be vaccine requirements for attendees at Alliance, Network, or partner events.

  • Travel: Domestic travel for this role may be up to 20% of this position. Must be willing to work periodically long, irregular hours and to travel as needed.
