CLIMATE ASSISTANT Grades K-8
POSITION SUMMARY: This position, under the direction of the Culture Director, is responsible for providing positive and effective behavior intervention support to individual students and small groups of students. This position is also responsible for monitoring, redirecting, and modifying student progress related to overall performance, administering intensive behavior strategies and processes for student success and well-being.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supports the school’s mission, vision, and all core values.
· Provides one-to-one intervention services to students in crisis situations (i.e., aggressive, or harmful behavior, severe self-injurious behavior, property destruction, elopement).
· Assists instructional staff in maintaining a safe/controlled school environment including classrooms, hallways, playground, and cafeterias.
· Assists other staff in maintaining behavior and critical incident report records
· Monitors designated Behavior Support areas
· Consults with educational, clinical, and administrative staff regarding student behaviors and behavioral programming
· Attends student staffing meetings, team meetings, and other related meetings (i.e., 504, IEP, IPP meetings) as needed
· Has knowledge of and documented competence in Approved Physical Restraint Techniques
· Has knowledge of behaviors associated with developmental disabilities.
· Has knowledge of medication effects
· Has knowledge of educational techniques, classroom management, and special education classifications
· Has knowledge of laws related to special education provisions. Relates effectively with students, staff, and parents
· Operates within a team model, following specific instructions and carrying out detailed behavior support plans
· Performs additional duties and as assigned
· Implements and monitors Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) initiatives
· Maintains a positive school culture and character education within the school
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree preferred.
Minimum of one to three years’ experience working with Behavior Intervention Programs.
Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively with teachers, administrators, and parents, in a variety of settings.
Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel.
Maintains integrity of confidential information relating to students and staff
Ability to keep pace with active children
Must possess excellent customer interaction collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
Must have current clearances (Child Abuse; Criminal; and FBI Background check)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL PROFILE: Challenging physical and behavioral aspects anticipated.
