The primary responsibility of the Lead Server is to accommodate residents and guests during their dining experience by attending to their needs in a friendly, timely, and professional manner.

The Lead Server is responsible for ensuring that the dining room is attractive and extremely clean at all times. In addition, the Lead Server will supervise, train, schedule, and motivate the serving associates.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure that the atmosphere of the dining room is pleasant and enjoyable, dining services are timely and the Servers are attentive to the needs of the residents.
  • Ensure that Servers follow the dress code.
  • Be aware of the flow and timing as the food is dished up from the serving line.
  • Set and manage the schedules for the Servers.
  • Establish the cleaning and side work schedule of the Servers for the dining rooms.
  • Greet and properly seat each resident and guest.
  • Always be ready to assist residents in sitting and in rising from the table.
  • Interact professionally with residents, associates and guests.
  • Serve food in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Supervise the Servers in keeping the dining and service areas clean and sanitary.
  • Approach residents and associates in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Take food and beverage orders and serve meals as they are ordered.
  • Have a good knowledge of the presentation of food being served and train the Servers in this area.
  • Supervise and assist the Servers in clearing tables of glasses, silverware, dishes, etc. when residents and guests have finished a course or their meal.
  • Assist other associates as needed.
  • Supervise and assist the Servers in maintaining a clean dining room, chairs, windows, floors and all work areas.
  • Supervise and assist the Servers in sweeping carpets between seatings or when needed and vacuuming daily.
  • Observe for ways to continuously improve service.
  • Conduct training sessions for Servers.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings and training as directed by Company policy and the Dining Services Director (DSD).
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when on duty.
  • Be constantly watchful of signs that residents are not able to function independently or a change in resident’s behavior.

Report all signs to the DSD following the Company policies and procedures.

  • Report any and all deferred maintenance, vandalism or hazardous situations to the DSD as discovered and take appropriate action as necessary.
  • Ensure understanding of and compliance with all regulations regarding residents’ rights.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident, associate, Community and Company information deemed as such.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Special Requirements / Certifications :

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of related experience preferred.
  • Must have state specific Food Manager Certification or be able to certify within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to multi-task, display enthusiasm, be self-motivated, and pay attention to detail.
  • Must also be a problem solver, be a team player, and have safety awareness.
  • Some software and computer skills preferred.
  • Must possess, or be willing to obtain, current food handler permit and certification of Hepatitis A vaccinations where required.
  • Must have a positive Criminal Background Screening.
  • Must pass a physical having no signs or symptoms of a communicable disease including tuberculosis where required. Freedom from tuberculosis must be documented on an annual basis where required.
  • The Community is a drug free workplace; associates are subject to adherence to the Company Drug Free Workplace policy.
