FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR - DISTRICT WIDE

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The essential function of the position within the organization is to direct the district’s Food Service Program functions in an effective and cost-efficient manner. The Food Service Director oversees all aspects of the district-wide school nutrition program. This person performs a variety of job functions including facilities and equipment management; financial management; food production and operation management; food security, sanitation, and safety; human resource management; program management and accountability; and technology and information systems. This position is essential to the successful operation of the district’s school nutrition program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the district in integrating student nutrition as a support for student learning by collaborating, visioning, managing, and supporting proper food service in all of the buildings.
Supervise the district-wide food service staff in the serving and preparing of meals in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations of the school lunch and breakfast programs.
Procurement of all foods and supplies to operate the food service program utilizing commodity entitlements to ensure a cost effective program. Supervise the inventory of all supplies throughout the district.
Manage human resource responsibilities including bimonthly approval of payroll hours and replacing staff as needed.
Planning and implementing monthly menus for all buildings which comply with USDA regulations.
Reporting all necessary information to the Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs including monthly claims for meal reimbursement, annual Child Nutrition Coordinated Application, and annual Verification Collection Report.
Maintaining all equipment to be in working condition for staff use. Contacting repair services and replacing equipment as needed.
Responsible for all aspects of processing Free and Reduced applications ensuring that the district is meeting all State and Federal guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor or Associates degree in a relevant area with at least one year experience working in a school food service program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently walking and standing. In addition, the employee may frequently bend or twist at the neck and back. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and close vision such as to read typewritten material. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds such as student equipment and wheelchairs.

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance & Operations

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 44 weeks per year.

SALARY: Based on qualifications and experience.
