Allan Hancock College is Hiring a Part-time, Faculty - Art History Near Santa Maria, CA

The Fine Arts program at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria is seeking applications to develop a qualified pool of part-time faculty for possible vacancies. Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2024 academic year.
 
Responsibilities and duties may include teaching one or more subjects in the Art History discipline: Art Appreciation, Art History (Survey 1 - Paleolithic to Gothic & Survey 2 - Renaissance to Modern), as well as Art of Mexico, Art of Asia and American Art, etc.)

Art Appreciation or one of the survey history courses. Allan Hancock College is accepting applications to establish a pool of qualified candidates to teach remote and/or in-person at the Santa Maria Campus for Fall 2024 and Spring 2024 in Art. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges' commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
 
 1. Teach college courses in Art (can be all or one of the following specialties): Art Appreciation or Art survey courses (both online and in person).
 
2. In addition, faculty are required to assist in curriculum revisions and new course development, consult with students during office and lab hours and maintain expertise in current technologies; and perform other professional duties as are required by contract and general institutional needs.Master’s in fine arts, art, or art history
OR
Bachelor’s in any of the above
AND
Master’s in humanities
OR the equivalent.
 
(NOTE: ‘’Master’s in fine arts” as used here refers to any master’s degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree
 is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other neoplastic arts.)
 
Academic Background Equivalence:
Related to disciplines in which a Master’s Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:
 
i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree, and
 
ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.
Professional Achievement Equivalence:
The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.
 
Equivalence to Minimum Qualifications:
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach college-level courses in art. Please indicate your areas of specialty in the cover letter.
 
2. Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety issues in labs and materials use.
 
3. Ability to ensure consistent and appropriate assessment of student progress.
 
4. Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline and related technology appropriate to instruction.
 
5. A commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals.
 
6. Enthusiasm for, understanding of, and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college.
 
 7. Skill and experience to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, socioeconomic, and language backgrounds.
 
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
 
 9. Experience in studio arts.
 
10. Proficient in animation techniques.
 
 11. Traditional design training.
 
 12. Basic knowledge of gallery/Museum exhibitions is not required, but beneficial.
 
13. Industry experience either in a design studio or freelancing.
 
14. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with students.
 
15. Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
 
16. Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.
 
17. Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and writing skills.).
