SUMMARY
The Software Development Engineer Manager leads a team of software developers in designing, implementing, and maintaining software applications. This role requires a blend of hands-on coding expertise and effective team leadership, overseeing the entire development process from conception to deployment in a high-volume SaaS environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leadership and Team Management: Directly manage engineers of all levels, provide feedback, guide promotions, and oversee the leveling process. Foster a collaborative, innovative, and productive work environment.
2. Project Management and Planning: Oversee multiple software development projects, particularly in high-volume distributed systems in a SaaS environment. Responsible for managing the day-to-day sprint process.
3. Technical Leadership: Provide hands-on coding expertise, especially in Go or related languages. Make key decisions in system architecture, particularly in microservices-based architecture, and address complex technical challenges.
4. Quality and Innovation: Ensure high-quality software development and implement best practices in a fast-paced engineering environment.
5. Collaboration and Strategy: Work closely with engineering managers, individual contributors, and cross-functional teams including PM, marketing, and sales to ensure timely delivery of key initiatives. Influence product strategy alongside the PM team.
6. Recruitment and Development: Lead recruitment efforts and cultivate a high-performing and creative engineering team. Identify training and development needs within the team.
REQUIREMENTS
• A minimum of 6 years of hands-on technical development experience and 3 years of experience in mentoring and leading engineering teams.
• Experience managing teams of 10 that build and operate high-volume distributed systems in a SaaS environment.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, C#, etc.).
• Expertise in designing and building systems in a microservices architecture.
• A foundational understanding of multi-threaded programming, concurrency primitives, and data structures.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience working in high-growth software companies.
