Description

 POSITION SUMMARY: Oversees all Residential camp programming. Provides support and supervision to the residential counselors, campers, and coaches, working directly with the Camp Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide council, advice, support and supervision for residential counselors.
• Lead by example and direction, expressing the importance of YMCA values, camper safety, and enthusiastic fulfillment of program objectives.
• Communicate with counselors within the resident program regarding activities, camp policies and procedures, and evaluate staff competence within the resident program.
• Observe camper behavior, assess appropriateness enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, apply appropriate management techniques.
• Communicate with local medics or hospital if necessary.
• Respond to any emergency that may arise at camp overnight.
• Accomplish department and organizational objectives by supervising staff and their performance, planning, scheduling and evaluating staff, orienting and training staff, coaching employees to foster growth opportunities and completing required paperwork in a timely manner.

Requirements

 KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree or enrolled in a program in Recreation, Sport Management, Physical Education or other related field. In lieu of a degree, prior work experience in a relevant setting will be considered.
• Additional certifications from YMCA, ACA or other nationally recognized organizations preferred. 
• Training/certification in Wilderness First Responder or comparable medical certification preferred. 

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 2 years related experience. 
• Experience working with youth in group settings.
• At least 1 year experience supervising staff.
• Training/Experience in team building, group facilitation, ropes course, archery, boating, and other related skills preferred.
