Job Overview

As a construction estimator, your primary responsibility is to assess the costs associated with construction projects. You'll analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements.

By leveraging your expertise and industry knowledge, you'll provide accurate cost estimates to support project planning, budgeting, and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

• Review Project Documentation : Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and other relevant documentation to understand project requirements and scope.
• Quantify Materials and Labor : Determine the quantity of materials, labor, and equipment needed for each phase of the construction project based on project specifications and industry standards.
• Cost Estimation : Utilize cost estimation software, historical data, and industry knowledge to calculate the total cost of materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses required for the project.
• Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination : Obtain price quotes from vendors and subcontractors for materials and services needed for the project.

Negotiate prices and terms to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to project budget.

Prepare and Present Estimates : Compile detailed cost estimates and present them to project stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, and project managers.

Clearly communicate assumptions, methodologies, and potential risks associated with the estimates.

Cost Analysis and Optimization : Identify opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality or safety standards.

Collaborate with project teams to explore alternative materials, construction methods, or design options to achieve cost savings.

Update and Maintain Cost Databases : Keep accurate records of cost estimates, pricing data, and project-related information.

Update cost databases regularly to reflect current market trends, material prices, and labor rates.

Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks and minimize cost overruns.

Support Project Planning and Scheduling : Work closely with project managers to develop project schedules and timelines aligned with cost estimates.

Provide ongoing cost analysis and support throughout the project lifecycle.

Participate in training programs, seminars, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and expertise.

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
• Proven 3-5 yrs. experience as a construction estimator or similar role in the construction industry.
• Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools, such as RSMeans, ProEst, or Sage Estimating.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes / regulations.
• Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
