Office Assistant 2 located in Anchorage!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 10.
What You Will Be Doing:
As an Office Assistant 2, you will provide a full range of administrative support to the Anchorage Wage and Hour team, playing a vital role in the workflow of the office, which greatly contributes to our mission of helping wage earners in Alaska. You will perform a range of duties including customer service, mail distribution, payment processing, opening claim files, scanning closed files, reviewing forms, and maintaining the reception area with relevant brochures, pamphlets, and forms.
Our Organization, Mission and Culture: The mission of Labor Standards and Safety is to ensure safe and legal working conditions for employees. Wage and Hour enforces and administers Alaska labor laws to ensure that workers are justly compensated for their labors and safeguarded from unfair or unscrupulous practices. This includes enforcement of minimum wages and overtime regulations, child labor laws, "right to return" transportation, public contract laws, and responsibility for the administration and licensing of private employment agencies. This position provides critical support to the Wage and Hour team and mission.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: This job is located at 1251 Muldoon Road, Suite 113 in Anchorage, Alaska. Wage and Hour shares office space with Mechanical Inspection, including the reception area. You will assist the public and work closely with the investigators and other departmental staff.
Who We Are Looking For:
  1. Clerical: Applies knowledge of clerical equipment and software, processes, techniques, and professional standards to complete routine office work to generally accepted professional standards. Completes work independently with minimal supervision. Uses skills and abilities to complete tasks consisting of many different and connected parts, including deciding which processes to use.
  2. Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  3. Self Management: Effectively prioritizes and completes tasks in order to deliver desired outcomes within allotted time frames.
  4. Attention To Detail: Sees and pays attention to details; recognizes the component parts of a procedure or object, and can verify correctness or error in an individual part or procedure.
  5. Customer Service: Interacts with recipients of services (internal or external customers) in a way that provides accurate, timely, and effective information and service in a courteous and professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
