Summary:

Under direct supervision, ensures accessibility of patient record information to authorized users within the guidelines of HIPAA regulations, the Patient Privacy Act and ANMC policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

E nsures accessibility of patient record information to authorized users under the guidelines of all federal and state regulations, and hospital policies and procedures. Initiates the medical record release process by inputting requests into software system for processing by reading and interpreting medical records, forms, and authorizations.
R esponds to internal and external requests for release of information contained in patients’ medical records, including patient, facility, state, federal and local authorities. Collaborates with management to ensure patient rights to inspect, amend, and restrict access to protected health information.
O rganizes and maintains department. Assists in management of the release of medical information. Ensures ability to release and track all medical information and distributions. Records all incoming requests through an electronic database. Ensures quality customer service and timely information delivery.
S upports management, medical staff and corporate compliance and risk management departments to ensure protection of patient privacy and confidentiality and assure standards are met. Presents health records in court proceedings as assigned.
D emonstrates proficiency in medical record analysis and release of information to patients, insurance companies, hospitals, legal, and state requests. Understands treatment, payment, and operations release requirements.
I nteract with customers in person, email and/or phone in a professional and friendly manner .
Manages phones calls and emails.
T ransport mail to and from the mailroom, every day.
P erforms other duties as assigned.
