Summary: Under close supervision responsible for assisting providers in delivering quality health care to customer- owners and their families.
Responsibilities:
Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions. Applies customer service guidelines appropriate for the situation.
Assists providers in the delivery of quality health care. Performs basic medical procedures before and after examination including taking of vital signs, rooming the patient, performing phlebotomy, specimen collection, dressing changes, medication administration, scheduling patient appointments and procedures, documentation of care in the healthcare record which may include documentation assistance as a scribe, proposing orders, performing specialty specific care with appropriate training; assisting in ensuring smooth patient flow; and assisting provider and case manager in managing patients.
Maintains a clean work environment, reporting defective or missing equipment and safety hazards. Assists in disaster planning and activities.
Provides feedback on the, and assists in the improvement of, quality of care being delivered to ensure that Joint Commission and other regulatory standards are met as they apply to the department.
Ensures availability of drug stock supply, other supplies, and equipment by completing daily inventories of various medical items and submitting supply requests for replacement. Perform equipment inventory and maintenance. Completes daily quality control testing and documentation of blood glucose meters where applicable.
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with other employees.

Act s as a mentor or train for the CMA team.
Work s with department leadership to provide input on process improvement opportunities and support implementing change process.
May have CMA lead responsibilities to include:

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
· Knowledge of safety factors and medical terminology.
· Knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written to interact with patients and families.
· Knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and treatment.
· Skill in providing and maintaining accurate documentation in the patient’s health record.
· Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
· Skill in learning the computer system, applying the knowledge to accurately schedule patient appointments and tests.
· Skill in setting up, maintaining, and interpreting data from a wide variety of medical equipment and monitoring devices.
· Skill in the application of basic first aid.
· Skill in injections, vital signs, and phlebotomy.
· Skill in setting up medical devices.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A certification from an accredited certified medical assistant program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory - A minimum of 2 years of Certified Medical Assistant Experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
· Certification in Basic Life Support required.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from any of the following: National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from National Healthcare Association (NHA) or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
