Alamo Veterans Network Intake Specialist
(AACOG)
This is a non-supervisory position; Works assisting veterans and their families in obtaining assistance; Receives referrals and information regarding community services; Works under limited supervision; Serves as point of contact with veterans, providers, their dependents and families to provide connections for various services.
Knowledge of veteran community, community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services; Independently assess the needs of clients and their family members identifying the clients' problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and assistance needed, in collaboration with the client and family; Independently conduct assessments and provide treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds; Knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological) and the differential influences of the environment, society and culture; Requires independent judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving or crisis intervention techniques; Provides a channel through which clients can seek solutions to problems, concerns and unmet needs; Provides information and assist in problem-solving; Knowledge and skill in the use of computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking in the online self- referral platform; Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Desired Degree/Job Experience: High School Graduate or GED required with some college courses in Social Service, Communication, Marketing or Human Services desired; Experience in social services work; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
This position is a Pay Grade 9 with a starting hourly salary of $17.87. This is a non-exempt position.Open until Filled. Only electronic online applications will be accepted.

Defined as a political subdivision of the State of Texas, AACOG was established in 1967 under Chapter 391 of the Local Government Code as a voluntary association of local governments and organizations that serves its members through planning, information, and coordination activities. AACOG serves the Alamo Area/State Planning Region 18, which covers 13 counties and 12,582 square miles. Comprising the area planning region are Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, and Wilson counties. AACOG provides general technical assistance to m...ember governments in their planning functions, preparation of applications, and the administration of area-wide programs. In addition, program specific technical assistance for regional planning in the areas of aging services, economic development, 9-1-1 systems, homeland security, criminal justice, resource recovery, air quality, transportation, weatherization, and workforce is also offered. We also administer the Alamo Local Authority for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, AACOG sponsors special projects in response to local government needs or requests. Support for these activities is provided through local dues, state appropriations, state and federal grants that are matched by local monies, and other public and private funds.
