Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring a Child Nutrition Program Worker Near Hayden, ID

Job Description Title- Child Nutrition Program Worker

Reports To: Principal, CNP Manager and CNP Director

FLSA Designation: Non-exempt

Job Goal: To prepare and serve attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness while complying with all local, state and federal food safety and sanitation requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training preferred
  • Possession of current Food Handler and/or ServSafe Certification preferred
  • Demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance

Skills and Physical Abilities:

  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, and stamina to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively
  • Demonstrate adequate physical mobility and ability to perform various physical tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Prolonged standing on hard surfaces
    • Lifting, pulling, pushing, and/or carrying moderate weight daily – up to 50 pounds
    • Working with both hands
    • Walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, bending, turning, balancing, reaching overhead
    • Emptying 55-gallon trash receptacle into dumpster
  • Ability to work for eight (8) hours in a kitchen environment which may include but is not limited to exposure to the following:
    • Slippery surfaces
    • Prolonged periods of hands in water
    • Approved cleaning chemicals
    • Common food allergens
    • Extreme hot, cold, and humid temperatures
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including but not limited to: mixers, slicers, dishwashers, warmers, ovens, floor machines, and other equipment
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral directions and standardized recipes, and perform simple mathematic calculations and measures
  • Ability to read and record food temperatures
  • Ability to think logically and systemically and learn technical skills of quantity food production including use and care of equipment

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Serve in job rotation or assist in CNP activities as assigned, including but not limited to: food preparation, serving, cashiering, and cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen, dining, storage and work areas
  • Provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for students, faculty, and guests, demonstrating professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all times and maintaining proper and professional relationships with students, faculty, co-workers and guests
  • Display good personal hygiene and grooming and appropriate attire in accordance with established guidelines
  • Perform tasks in a courteous, professional and timely manner
  • Display ability to work under pressure and time constraints
  • Prepare, cook, and serve various foods, following the approved menu and standardized recipes, in compliance with state and local health codes, as they relate to food service
  • Follow all safety regulations required for food handling
  • Safely and properly operate kitchen equipment – including assembly, disassembly, cleaning, and sanitizing, if required
  • Report faulty equipment to CNP Manager
  • Set up and break down food preparation and service areas
  • Assume responsibility for serving and replenishing menu items
  • Serve students food in portions that meet mandated nutritional requirements
  • Work independently and as a group/team of co-workers, demonstrating the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks efficiently
  • Check in and properly store USDA commodities, purchased foods and supplies, using established procedures (FIFO)
  • Assist in maintaining proper stock levels and accurate inventory
  • Maintain coolers, freezers, dry storage and all kitchen areas in an orderly and sanitary condition
  • Use food and supplies for school purposes and functions only (Unauthorized food use and/or removal from the school will be just cause for dismissal)
  • Participate in and attend all in-service training programs as assigned
  • Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development
  • Adhere to local school and Board of Education rules and policies, administrative procedures, and state, federal and local regulations
  • Demonstrate support for the school system, its purpose, direction and priorities
  • Maintain confidentiality of school/workplace, student, staff and Board of education information and matters
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance – reporting absences and taking leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures
  • Perform other job-related tasks as may be assigned

Terms of Employment: 184-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
