Job Description Title- Child Nutrition Program Manager

Reports To: Principal and Child Nutrition Program Director

Supervises: Child Nutrition Program Workers

FLSA Designation: Non-exempt

Job Goal: To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school cafeteria for ultimate health, comfort, and benefit of students, and ensure an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness in which students may be served nutritious meals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training preferred
  • Possession of current Food Handler and/or ServSafe Certification preferred or successful completion of certification exam within one (1) year of hire
  • Prior food service and/or management experience preferred
  • Demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Knowledge of and experience with basic computer skills and essential programs including email, current Blount County CNP point-of-sale software and online ordering systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization, collaboration, and planning skills to accomplish goals and complete job requirements
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance

Skills and Physical Abilities:

  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, and stamina to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively
  • Demonstrate adequate physical mobility and ability to perform various physical tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Prolonged standing on hard surfaces
    • Lifting, pulling, pushing, and/or carrying moderate weight daily – up to 50 pounds
    • Working with both hands
    • Walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, bending, turning, balancing, reaching overhead
    • Emptying 55-gallon trash receptacle into dumpster
  • Ability to work for eight (8) hours in a kitchen environment which may include but is not limited to exposure to the following:
    • Slippery surfaces
    • Prolonged periods of hands in water
    • Approved cleaning chemicals
    • Common food allergens
    • Extreme hot, cold, and humid temperatures
  • Ability to navigate websites and use email to carry out necessary functions of the job duties
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including but not limited to: mixers, slicers, dishwashers, warmers, ovens, floor machines, and other equipment
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral directions and standardized recipes, and perform simple mathematic calculations and measures
  • Ability to read and record food temperatures
  • Ability to think logically and systemically and learn technical skills of quantity food production including use and care of equipment

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Achieve and maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen, following required food handling safety regulations
  • Develop and maintain a welcoming and positive environment in the school cafeteria, demonstrating professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all times and maintaining proper and professional relationships with students, faculty, co-workers and guests
  • Display good personal hygiene and grooming and appropriate attire in accordance with established guidelines
  • Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment
  • Demonstrate ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks efficiently and use technology for communication, record keeping, reporting, scheduling, and other job responsibilities as required
  • Plan, assign, direct and supervise the work of the CNP Employees, developing work schedules, outlining specific duties, and arranging for substitutes when required
  • Maintain employee time records
  • Determine and order appropriate quantities of food and supplies needed for standardized recipes / approved menus
  • Oversee receipt of orders, verify invoices and inspect received product for quality, quantity, accuracy of weight and price upon delivery, both accurately and in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate inventory, food production records and invoices as required by state and federal regulations
  • Assume responsibility for the security, proper storage and care of foods and supplies, using established procedures (FIFO)
  • Ensure coolers, freezers, dry storage, and all kitchen areas are in an orderly and sanitary condition, keeping daily temperature logs where required
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring that all kitchen equipment is in safe, working condition, entering Maintenance requests appropriately for maintenance and repairs and informing CNP Director when replacements are needed
  • Display ability to work under pressure and time constraints
  • Plan and direct the preparation and serving of all food in the cafeteria, determining the quantities of each food to be prepared daily
  • Supervise and assist with the preparation and serving of food, according to the approved menu and standardized, tested, uniform recipes, and determine if the finished product is of best quality in flavor, proper temperature and appearance before it is served
  • Determine the serving / portion size to meet the necessary requirements with regard to the ages of those served
  • Assist with set up and break down of food preparation lines and serving areas
  • Observe tray assembly to ensure that foods are properly portioned to meet requirements and that food is attractively presented, served and arranged on trays
  • Oversee and assist with the cleaning and sanitation procedures for the kitchen, all equipment, and the cafeteria
  • Maintain and submit required reports, records, and correspondences in a timely and accurate manner and make daily deposits to appropriate banking institution
  • Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner
  • Cooperate with Principal, school administrators, and school faculty in planning, developing and utilizing the dining room/cafeteria to provide positive learning experiences for students
  • Assist in interviewing and instructing new CNP Employees
  • Provide instruction and oversee work of CNP substitutes
  • Assist Principal in evaluating the performance of all CNP Employees
  • Immediately report any problem, accident, or on-the-job injury occurring in the kitchen or the cafeteria to the Principal / School Administrator
  • Confer with Principal and CNP Director regarding any personnel problems
  • Participate in and attend all in-service training programs as assigned
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Identify employee training and development needs and report to CNP Director
  • Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development
  • Adhere to local school and Board of Education rules and policies, administrative procedures, and state, federal and local regulations
  • Demonstrate support for the school system, its purpose, direction and priorities
  • Maintain confidentiality of school/workplace, student, staff and Board of education information and matters
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance – reporting absences and taking leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures
  • Additional responsibilities as outlined for the Child Nutrition Worker
  • Perform other job-related tasks as may be assigned by the Principal or CNP Director

Terms of Employment: 187-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
