Job Title- Behavior Interventionist

Supervisor:Director of Assessment, Accountability and Student Support

Job Goals:

  • To assist school personnel in developing and implementing effective programs(s) and intervention(s) to address behaviors of students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavior analysis, social work, psychology, education, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with students with behavioral concerns
  • Experience in implementing effective behavior plans and/or interventions.
  • Training in prevention and management of aggressive behavior.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies for executive functioning, self-regulation, communication, and behavior intervention.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Physical strength, stamina, agility, and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functions.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
  • Ability and willingness to be trained in the Human Empowerment Leadership Principles (HELP) program provided by Jefferson County Schools[MM1] .

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Provides leadership in developing and promoting the mission and vision of the Office of Prevention and Support.
  • Reviews federal and state regulations and other information applicable to the program area(s).
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  • Participates as a team member in the identification of and assessment of students’ social, behavioral, emotional, and academic problems.
  • Works in collaboration with staff members from the Office of Prevention and Support and other district administrators in identifying and prioritizing district behavioral needs, interventions, etc. and with Implementation of any school or district-wide behavioral programming.
  • Works in coordination with school staff and/or outside agencies, and other appropriate professionals in conducting behavior assessments and developing behavior plans for students with behavioral needs.
  • Provides staff training and support in behavior management strategies.
  • Demonstrates and teaches effective communication skills.
  • Performs and models de-escalation techniques designed to address students’ aggressive behaviors.
  • Provides social skills training to students in such areas as anger management, social skills enhancement, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions.
  • Analyzes behavioral data and collaborates with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to develop and implement behavioral interventions and plans for students with behavioral needs.
  • Trains teachers in documenting and analyzing behavioral data.
  • Plans and confers with classroom teachers concerning any behavioral, social, or personal problems affecting students.
  • Assists with evaluation of students in the areas of behavior, social skills, executive functioning, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Consults with school and district personnel, parents, and community agencies.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
