**Normal Work Schedule:** Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings & weekends required

**Job Summary:** Under general supervision, the Student Life Specialist I is responsible for the administration of one or more Student Life program(s). Serves as liaison between the program and other departments or the community. Position may supervise staff or students. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.

**Additional Department Summary:** The Coordinator of Fitness Services provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of the Group Exercise program and non-credit classes offered through University Recreation (UREC) at the Student Recreation Center and additional UREC facilities or other campus locations. Duties include, but are not limited to: management and execution of group exercise and fitness incentive programs, hiring, training, and supervision of up to 50 student employees and part-time staff employees, employee skills assessments and performance evaluations, and maintenance and upkeep of fitness studios and related equipment. This position also holds primary responsibilities in managing administrative tasks such as payroll, budgeting and accounting, and has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

The Coordinator provides a respectful and inclusive environment for University Recreation participants by offering diverse educational and recreational opportunities to UA students, faculty, staff, alumni, affiliates and community. This position works to support department and University goals of diversity, equity, inclusion and outreach in student employment opportunities, patron relations, program offerings, and special events.

This position works to maximize student experiences by providing educational and recreational opportunities to the University community. Through collaboration and partnerships with other divisional and campus units, this position will assist in providing opportunities that have a positive impact on the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of UA students. The Coordinator also supports the Assistant Director in developing programs promote continuing fitness education and certification opportunities among patrons and employees of University Recreation by hosting nationally accredited fitness certification classes/programs.

Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.

Hours vary to include some nights and weekends for staff training and development, events and other activities. On-call for emergencies in program area.

**Required Department Minimum Qualifications:** Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, fitness management, physical education, recreation, or health education and three (3) years of experience in a university or corporate health/fitness setting; OR Masters degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, fitness management, physical education, recreation, or health education and one (1) year of experience in a university or corporate health/fitness setting. Will consider graduate assistantship and/or internship experience if performed with primary emphasis in Group Exercise program management.

Must have valid, nationally recognized group exercise certification, from a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited certifying organization, or be able to obtain certifications within three (3) months of hire date. CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) weeks of hire date.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.

**Skills and Knowledge:** Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with successful management of group exercise programs.

Effective customer relations skills, strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills. Competence in fiscal management, assessment, and evaluation. Aptitude to prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, work with limited supervision, supervise and delegate work to student staff, and exercise good judgment. Capability to work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team. Knowledge and experience with personal computers and standard software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, database management, etc).

Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

**Preferred Qualifications:** Master's degree in Health Promotion, Exercise Physiology or other health-related field. Certification from at least one of the following agencies is preferred: American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, National Strength and Conditioning Association. Pilates Reformer training or certification (Balanced Body, Stott, Peak). Knowledge of educational theories and student development, demonstrates highly critical and creative thinking towards program evaluations, and demonstrates effective judgment.
