Position Summary

The Maintenance Generalist assists with the upkeep and maintenance of all college buildings, furnishings, equipment, and grounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include :

  • Assists with the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings, fixtures, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Assists with routine maintenance and repairs of buildings and equipment. Routine maintenance includes but is not limited to light bulb changes, ceiling tile replacement, and HVAC filter cleaning and changes.
  • Assists in maintaining proper lighting within and outside of buildings.
  • Assists in the scheduling, maintenance, upkeep, cleaning, and fueling (if needed) of all college vehicles.
  • Assists in maintaining campus grounds by picking up litter, cutting grass, trimming, fertilizing, watering, pruning shrubbery, edging sidewalks, cutting dead branches, etc.
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Moves and stores physical plant equipment and supplies.
  • Sets up equipment, tables, chairs, etc. for events.
  • Transports materials, equipment, and supplies between buildings and campuses.
  • Eliminates any situation which might be hazardous to students, employees and visitors.

  • Complies with ACCS and College policies, as well as state and federal laws.
  • Ensures the positive promotion of the College and integration of all campuses within the College.
  • Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, and office hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One-year related experience.
  • Current and valid driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and writing).
  • Excellent customer services, specifically calm and friendly service.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, tractor, and standard business office machines.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in facility / building maintenance from a regionally accredited institution or a certificate in electrical, HVAC, or building maintenance.
  • Two (2) years of maintenance experience

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.

    Tuition Assistance

    This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.

    The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.

    An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
