The GIS Specialist is responsible for generating high-quality GIS data, conducting spatial analyses, providing technical support, and coordinating project tasks for water-related projects. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in GIS software.
Duties and Responsibilities:
GIS Data Management and Production:
Generate and produce GIS data in accordance with project requirements.
Ensure data integrity and accuracy through regular validation of sources.
Organize, store, and maintain GIS datasets efficiently for accessibility by stakeholders.
GIS Analysis and Support:
Conduct detailed spatial analyses to derive insights for water-related projects.
Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate spatial data into project solutions.
Provide technical assistance to GIS staff to maintain consistency and quality in outputs.
Project Coordination and Collaboration:
Attend team meetings, providing updates and feedback on GIS components.
Assist in coordinating project tasks to align with timelines and objectives.
Build strong relationships with public and private entities involved in projects.
Field Work and Travel:
Conduct necessary field work to collect and validate spatial data.
Travel primarily within local regions, with occasional trips for conferences.
Continuous Learning and Professional Development:
Stay updated on GIS technology advancements and best practices.
Participate in relevant training sessions, workshops, and conferences.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
0-5 years of experience in water resources-related work.
Some experience with GIS software, preferably ESRI-based applications.
Other Qualifications Desired:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills.
Experience with spatial and 3D analyst tools.
Familiarity with ArcHydro tools.
Proficiency in computer programming languages (Python, VB, C , Java, etc.).
Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and oral.
