AKF Engineers is Hiring an Intern - Mechanical Commissioning Near New York, NY

 

Assist in the planning of engineering projects, focusing on the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques. Collaborate closely with Project Managers (PM) or Senior Engineers for technical review and guidance, gaining hands-on experience in design and documentation processes.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and document pre-functional and functional testing and verification of equipment and systems in the field, with a specific focus on HVAC, plumbing, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems.
  • Perform basic calculations to support project requirements.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of fundamental engineering guidelines, code compliance requirements, and industry standards.
  • Assist in examining field conditions to support project development and completion.
  • Contribute to documentation processes and prepare materials for presentations or client meetings.
  • Assist in the drafting of correspondence and responding to requests for information.
  • Represent the company professionally in interactions with owners, architects, vendors, other design professionals, and contractors.
  • Update job knowledge and technical expertise through participation in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and involvement in technical organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited architectural, mechanical, plumbing & fire protection, or electrical engineering program.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasive, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and work effectively as part of a project team.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Introductory working knowledge of BIM/Revit and AutoCAD.

Job Classification and Scheduled Work Hours:

  • Full-Time Temporary Hourly Non-Exempt Intern. Non-Exempt interns are eligible for Overtime Pay.
  • Standard workweek is Monday-Friday.
  • May be required to work extra hours to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel to client meetings and worksites is required.
