Job Title: Sr. Project Engineer

Department: Professional Services

Reports to: Director of Professional Services

Job Summary:

The Airiam Senior Project Engineer is tasked with delivering on technical projects for clients that fall outside the scope of standard support agreements. These may be new implementations, upgrades, or migrations of existing infrastructure systems or services. The Senior Project Engineer will be involved in the process from pre-sales discussions up through execution and completion of the project. They are expected to be able to manage their time well, balancing multiple projects at different phases at the same time. The engineer will have experience with scoping a project including all tasks and providing estimates of time required to complete work. Due to the varying size of customer environments and project scopes, they may work independently or as part of a technical team to complete assigned tasks. In addition to project work they are also to provide escalation support for the Service Desk team.

The Senior Project Engineer has a core role within the Airiam Professional Services department, with their primary focus being on client technology improvement projects. Airiam's Project Catalog ranges from operations such as upgrades of Windows server infrastructure (virtual and physical) to implementation of Microsoft Cloud SaaS technologies, from network security hardening to IAM solution implementation. Professional Services works in environments of varying scope and size, with primary customer focus being in the small to medium sized business where we act as primary escalation to an internal customer IT department (co-managed relationship). Project length can vary from four hours of work to hundreds of hours over the course of months.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Project Implementation
    • Ability to follow Statement of Work and Project Design
    • Ability to follow checklists and procedures.
    • Participate in and lead project planning, implementation, and post-project reviews.
    • Report on hours (actual vs budget). Communicate and resolve budget issues in conjunction with Director and/or Project Manager
    • Identify Out-of-Scope and Change Order issues
  • Architectural Design & Review
    • Create project design and catalog entries
    • Advise Client Success staff on best technical practices and design standards
  • Statement of Work
    • Assist Design Desk and Systems Architects to write Statement of Work documents
    • Provide time estimates and deadlines for SOWs
    • Review finished SOWs.
    • Participate in post-project review of SOWs for budget and task accuracy
  • Documentation upkeep and creation for Project/Escalation processes and procedures
  • Report on metrics
    • Be accountable for meeting goals.
    • Regular time entry and service ticket updates.
  • Individual metrics will include, but are not limited to, billable hours per week and utilization time on escalations from Service Desk
  • Participate in regularly scheduled huddles, prepared to report on your individual metrics.
  • Inform management of recurring problems or clients at risk.
  • Monitor and advise on recurring technical implementation issues, guiding general company technology practices
  • Maintain education and knowledge to align with support needs.
  • Willingness to take on new technologies and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal management.
  • Can-do attitude and ingenuity is a key attribute for this position.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technical associates.
  • After-hours work is often required and expected.
  • Participation in on-call rotation is a requirement.
  • Time management skills that allow you to effectively manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to communicate with both clients and your team.
  • Patience, foresight and confidence are character traits that are beneficial for this position.

Additional technologies that would be "nice to have" include the following:

  • Remote Management platforms (RMM): N-able N-central
  • Professional Services Automation (PSA): Kaseya AutoTask
  • Backup & Recover: Veeam BCDR, N-able Cove
  • Security: SentinalOne, ThreatLocker
  • Networking: Fortigate, Cisco, Unifi

Education and Experience:

  • 7 years of IT experience, preferably within a Managed Services Provider or Consulting role.
  • Industry relevant certifications preferred.
  • Associate degree in a related field is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
