Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will participate in the requirements, design, and implementation of Infrastructure as Code initiatives as part of our core Aireon service components modernization and operations. As a member working in a team environment, you will take direction from the Project Manager, Engineering Lead and/or Architect Lead to plan for your activities and deliverables.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to our efforts in transforming our infrastructure into a more secure, efficient, scalable, and automated environment
• Support our engineering team to move from rigid private on-premises infrastructure to a virtualized and containerized approach that could be easily ported to the Azure Cloud in the future

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
• 1 year using Terraform as main language for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• 2 years using Microsoft ARM templates as secondary language for IaC
• 2 years deploying and maintaining Kubernetes Clusters
• 3 years experinece with Azure DevOps
• Experience deploying highly scalable/mission-critical/zero-downtime solutions
• Experience with Networking and security configurations for Cloud and Hybrid systems
• Proficiency in at least one high-level scripting language (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.) and at least one programming language (Java, JavaScript, C#, Python, .NET Framework)
• Hands-on experience with Application Performance Monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana and others
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices
• Excellent problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment
• Eligible to obtain SF-85P public trust

Desired Qualifications

• Experience deploying data streaming solutions using tools like Kafka, Pulsar and/or NATS.io
• Experience working on regulated, safety-critical environment
• Experience working on aviation or satellite telecommunications environment
• Participation in migration from on-premise to Cloud projects

1-3-6-12 Month Plan

At 3 months we'll expect you to...

• Participate in ongoing project meetings
• Have read the technical requirements and start working on implementation plans and Proof-of-Concepts
• Conduct Demos as needed

At 6 months we'll expect you to...

• Continue developing infrastructure as code scripts
• Conduct infra implementation testing
• Troubleshoot issues with components and overall infrastructure
• Support test phases
• Work on security hardening plans

At 12 months we'll expect you to...

• Continue infrastructure as code implementation and testing
• Find and implement automation opportunities
• Continue to improve system security posture
• Continue supporting troubleshooting, testing initiatives
• Support architects on planning resource/performance optimizations
• Conduct Demos for stakeholders

About the Team

• Team of 10 engineering experts, mostly working from our HQ office in McLean on a flexible hybrid environment (2-3 days in office)
• Using V-Curve methodology with tones of Agile to keep track of project status and planning activities
• The team mostly uses Atlassian stack and Microsoft Office tools for collaboration and communication
