Overview

POSITION SUMMARY Primarily responsible for the timely and accurate presentation of assigned financial accounts within the General Ledger. The Senior Accountant will ensure appropriateness of transactions posted to assigned accounts (in compliance with GAAP, OSHPD, and other regulatory guidelines as necessary) and ensures integrity of subsidiary system postings to the General Ledger. Also prepares various financial reports and analyses for internal and external use, as well as assists in the audit/review of these reports. Works on special projects for accounting department as they arise.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSA. Preparation of timely and accurate journal entries to post transactions to assigned accounts on the General ledger. Source documentation and backup must be present to support journals.B. Monthly balancing/reconciliation of assigned accounts in General Ledger including bank accounts are to be completed in a timely manner. Any issues or discrepancies noted should be communicated to Controller for further resolution.C. Maintain prepaid schedule, fixed asset, and intercompany transactions.D. Monthly expense accrual and analysis by category as assigned.E. Research and resolution to variances that are discovered during closing analysis or those communicated by other department directors or senior management.F. Assist Controller in preparation for financial and governmental audits relating to the hospital.G. Sales tax filingH. Unclaimed properties filingI. Reconcile daily and monthly cash posting by CBO and hospitalJ. Prepare daily and monthly statistics and reportsK. Assist with 1099s, quarterly OSHPD filing, and other special projectsL. Cross train to other Accounting staff desks in order to back up key functions of the Accounting department.M. Assist in the training/mentoring of less experienced staff to orient all staff members to the Accounting Department procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE Three to five years relevant experience in a hospital environment is preferredBachelor’s degree or equivalent, Accounting or Finance General ledger experience.Knowledge of accounting and financial analysis principles.Computer skills, including spreadsheets and applications, required.High degree of organization/priority-setting abilities.Must be flexible and willing to work within a team.Ability to work under minimal supervision.
