AFSC job board is Hiring a Communications Intern Near Newark, NJ

Status: Part-Time, Specific Term (11/27/23 through 04/31/24, 10-12 hours a week)

Location: Newark, NJ

Summary of Principal Responsibilities:

The Communications Intern will work with Immigrant Rights Program staff to promote program vision and activities via media production, outreach and education. The Communications Intern will help create materials, manage social media as needed, support community outreach and educational events, and compile and track data related to the program. Candidates with experience and knowledge of immigrant communities are encouraged to apply. 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Develop materials related to the Immigrant Rights Program and services. 
  2. Manage social media as needed. 
  3. Support outreach to AFSC’s existing clients and other immigrant community members by using internal CRM. 
  4. Produce multimedia for documenting IRP activities. 
  5. Coordinate, support and participate in community events. 
  6. Organize, update and set clients database for CRM outreach.
  7. Meet regularly with supervisor. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Strong interest in immigrants’ rights. 
  2. Experience in graphic and/or newsletter design. 
  3. Familiarity with various social media platforms. 
  4. Comfortable with spreadsheets and CRM software 
  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multicultural contexts. 
  6. Good oral and written communication skills. 
  7. Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings. 
  8. Ability to communicate effectively and build mutually respectful relationships with co-workers, clients, and the public. 
  9. Ability to work effectively and comfortably with Quaker principles. 
  10. Self-motivated, detail oriented, well-organized, able to prioritize assignments and workload. 
  11. Fluency in a foreign language (Spanish preferred) in addition to English is a plus.

Compensation: Unpaid. AFSC will work with law students who have secured academic credit and/or school or outside funding for their internship.
