Summary of Principal Responsibilities:The Organizing Intern will conduct outreach and support to AFSC’s DACA clients and DACA recipients or DREAMers in Monmouth and Ocean County about the resources available for accessing higher education, supporting DACA and advance parole clinics, and engage youth in federal immigration organizing activities. The Organizing Intern will conduct group or individual meetings with young people and actively participate in youth coalitions. The goal of this internship is to help engage AFSC’s DACA clients and affiliated DREAMers in current immigration legislative and advocacy activities.

Essential Functions/Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct outreach to AFSC’s existing DACA clients and young people at nearby schools.
  2. Share Know-Your-Rights and information about resources for accessing higher education, and the federal Dream Act.
  3. Conduct informational community presentations.
  4. Assist in DACA and Advance Parole clinics.
  5. Support and participate in legislative meetings and activities with legislators when appropriate.
  6. Help coordinate youth events that aim at developing youth leadership and collective power.
  7. Generate social media content and support social media administration
  8. Represent AFSC at youth gatherings.
  9. Meet regularly with supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. Personal experience with immigration systems a plus.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multicultural contexts.
  3. Familiarity with the DACA program and federal DREAM Act.
  4. Good oral and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings virtually. Ability to communicate effectively and build mutually respectful relationships with co-workers, clients, and the public.
  6.  Ability to work effectively and comfortably with Quaker principles.
  7. Self motivated, detail oriented, well-organized, able to prioritize assignments and workload.
  8. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Compensation: Salary Range $20 per hour, 350 hours total – Non-/Exempt – There are no medical, dental, or life insurance benefits, short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment, worker’s compensation, and social security.
