African Communities Together is Hiring a PA Canvasser Near Philadelphia, PA

African Communities Together is seeking 3 full time paid canvassers ahead of the November midterm election. Paid Canvassers will be responsible for engaging African/Black Diaspora voters across Pennsylvania districts and encouraging them to make plans to vote. Canvassers will represent African Communities Together and its values. Candidates should have a genuine interest in the cause and be able to convey its importance to people.

Responsibilities: 

  • Go door to door speaking with African/Black community voters about the upcoming election 
  • Tracking conversation results in MiniVAN 
  • Talking with voters about relevant issues that might come up at the door 
  • Data entry and record keeping
  • Attending daily check-ins and preparing reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Strong verbal communication skills. Canvassers are expected to communicate with a variety of African immigrants, from voters to active members of the African community. 
  • Previous canvassing or organizing experiences are preferred, but are not required. Cultural competence and significant experience with African immigrant communities or within the social justice sector. Experience working with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and communities. 
  • Fluency in a widely spoken African language (one or more) is required.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with rejection. Candidates should have the ability to stay motivated and positive, even when facing difficult or unresponsive people.
  • Living in, the ability to commute to, or willing to relocate to the Greater Philadelphia area 
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a smartphone that can operate MiniVAN. Shifts take place on weekday evenings and weekends. Schedule is flexible for when applicants are able to make shifts (must be willing to work some weekends). 
  • Candidates should have strong organizational skills, be accountable to goals and be able to prioritize their work.
  • Candidates should be able to work independently, take initiative, and be adaptable to changing circumstances. 

Pay: $22/hour contract work.
