Position Summary

The buyer is responsible for placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, providing shop support and inventory control.

Essential Functions

• Place purchase orders for outside services and materials.
• Supplier management, including delivery commitments, shipment issues, and compliance to customer specifications.
• Coordinate product transfer to and from suppliers.
• Cross-trained in various areas of the Supply Chain business unit.
• Inventory control.
• Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers, team members and managers.
• Evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability and other criteria
• Interview vendors and visiting suppliers’ facilities to learn about products, services and pricing.
• Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best value on behalf of the company.
• Authorize payments and maintain receipts, records and inventories.
• Some travel may be expected.

Experience and Education

• Degree in a business field preferred or 5 years purchasing experience
